Background and Qualifications

Presently located in Delaware, Dr. Kristin deGhetaldi began her private practice in 2009 and has since worked for several private clients and collectors, galleries, government and state-level institutions, auction houses, artists, and foundations. Dr. deGhetaldi graduated in 2008 with a Master of Science degree from the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation, focusing on painting conservation. She obtained her Ph.D. in Preservation Studies in 2017 from the University of Delaware and completed a three-year Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship in Painting Conservation at the National Gallery of Art. She has also participated in various workshops, conservation positions, and internships at several institutions, including the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the RISD Museum. In addition, Dr. deGhetaldi earned a post-baccalaureate certificate in conservation (2004) at the Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy, and a BA (2003) in Chemistry from Grinnell College. She and her husband host the free online forum MITRA (Materials Information and Technical Resources for Artists), a forum dedicated to connecting artists with conservators, scientists, and experts working in the art manufacturing industry.
